Blinking at the spotless kitchen, Fang began to investigate. He opened cupboards and peered inside. Finally he got bored with that and just went back outside.

Yuki woke up and went into the living room to watch anime. Full metal Alchemist was on.

A few hours later, Fang stepped back inside. "I'm goin out," He said abruptly, shutting the door behind him as he went back outside.

He gave her a backwards wave through the view of the window and headed towards the town. A small child bumped into him as he was walking and fell to the ground. He reached down to steady it. It was a little boy. It looked up at him with wide green eyes, and reached its hands up to him. Unsure of what to do, Fang lifted the boy into his arms, aware that this street urchin was probably in a load of trouble. Swinging the boy to his back, he ran for it, for some reason feeling oddly protective of the little child. He nearly made it, but was stopped by the defenders of the law; he knew not their name but they were always on his case. With his hood pulled over his face, they couldn't see who he was. Shadow had stayed behind at Yuki's house, so the one item the Black Fang thief was identified by was not present. The defenders of the law frowned at him. "Put the boy down, and you may leave." Fang did not comply. Six or seven of them forcibly removed the silent boy from his back and detained them both, taking them away to determine their crimes. Fang and the boy kept eye contact, silent but strong.

They were both placed in a locked room. They watched each other for a while before the boy said in a airy voice, "Arigato, Onee-Sama." Fang nodded once. "Why are they after you?" The boy blinked solemnly. "I am the son of a powerful person." Fang nodded again, comprehending at once. "I understand. We'll leave here when we get the chance. If possible, before they figured out who I am. Your name?" The boy solemnly extended his hand. "Kelric Ashyr." Fang smiled. "That's the way I like it. Let's go." He was startled when Kelric's hand slid into his own. The young boy smiled up at him adoringly.

Yuki was cooking lunch and giving Shadow a bit of meat now and again as she continued on.

Fang picked the lock and left the prison cell. No lock had ever held him in before, and it wouldn't start to now. Kelric climbed on his back again, draping his arms around Fang's neck. Fang returned to Yuki's house to get Shadow. He opened the door, totally forgetting about Kelric on his back and how embarrassing it was.

Yuki smiled at looked at Fang as he opened the door. "Ohayo Fang! Who's your friend?"

"Kelric." The little boy said, staring up at Yuki. He clutched the front of Fang's shirt, as if seeking protection. His big green eyes blinked at Yuki. When Fang looked away for a moment, he glowered at Yuki like a jealous younger sibling. When Fang's attention returned to Yuki, the look faded into innocence.

Fang did as he was bid, though his eyes were on the window, not the TV. Clearly he found the outdoors slightly more interesting.

Yuki finished the lunch and set the table for three.

Shadow flew to Fang's shoulder, careful not to hurt the small boy. Kelric stared wide-eyed at the hawk, in awe of his ferocity. Shifting the kid to his chest instead of his back, Fang sat him gently on the floor. The boy stubbornly refused to leave his lap. Shrugging, Fang went to the food. Shadow and Kelric both watched him eat.

"Kelric-san I made some for you, too." she said as she gentally place a plate full of food in front of him.

He looked at it a minute before he started eating as well. Fang started feeding Shadow the meat out of his.

Yuki went into her room and locked the door and went to bed.

Finishing off the food, Fang began to stand. Kelric latched onto his shirt with one tiny fist, stretching out his other arm to Fang. His eyes softened and he picked the kid up again. On a whim, he randomly asked, "How old are you?" The boy gave Fang that solemn look again. "Six." Shadow moved to perch on a ceiling beam, watching Fang and Kelric with hawkish eyes.

Fang quietly opened the door so as to not disturb Yuki. Shadow followed him out, wings barely making a sound as he glided to a tree outside. Fang climbed the tree with a little extra difficulty due to Kelric. When at last he got to a branch thick enough to support him, he settled back, shoulders against the trunk. With grim eyes he stared out at the growing darkness, aware and slightly nervous by the fact that Kelric watched his every move. He was used to being watched by Shadow, of course, but this kid could speak to him and it was quite a different concept.

When Fang woke, Shadow had gone for a hunt. Kelric was still staring at him. Climbing down from the tree, he set the boy on the ground. For the first time since they'd met, Kelric let go of Fang.

Yuki bolted outside, running past Fang and Kelric with a dazed look in her eyes.

Fang, brow furrowed, loped after her like a deer after pausing to deposit Kelric upon his shoulders.
